Gonzalo Forero Segovia

Finance Director

My name is Gonzalo Forero Segovia and I am the Finance Director of Wemyss Family Spirits. Originally from Madrid, but lived in Scotland for 15 years. I have been part of Wemyss for over a decade. I joined the accounts department in February 2012; I will always remember my interview: it was a dark evening and two little dogs came down the stairs to greet me as soon as I came into the building. Then the interview in the Boardroom with all those bottles of whisky and old ledgers on the shelves. I knew this was the place I wanted to be. Since then what a journey it has been, for Wemyss and for myself: Wemyss Group has moved from one Hydro scheme to five, from being a small independent whisky bottler to have built and now run our very own Distillery, while on Properties we are now starting our first adventure in industrial developments as well as residential. Never mind the businesses abroad. Delighted I have been a small part of all of that and have contributed to help Wemyss to achieve it. Personally, I started as an account assistant and progress to Finance Director, included becoming a Chartered Management Accountant after completing all my CIMA exams.

With time, I was spending more and more time on the whisky division. I think one of things I have enjoyed the most is Kingsbarns Distillery, I was here when it was an old farmhouse in ruins, I have gone through all the construction, and first distillation 7 years ago. And of course, Darnley’s Distillery, which came along a few years later.

When I first came to Scotland I did not drink whisky, I had not tried a good one. Now whisky is part of my life, and I always have a couple of bottles in the house to share with friends or family. Wemyss Family Spirits has some many really good products to choose from, but if I had to choose, Kingsbarns Dream to Dram single malt would be my pick, neat in a whisky tumbler. But over the years there have been so many good products, i.e. Kingsbarns Bell Rock and Velvet Fig, a really good Blended Malt Wemyss launched in 2014, of which I still have a bottle!
